The first casualties of upheaval can be love, kindness, and patience. But crisis is also a moment when love for God & one another can spring up. For 150 days, starting on 17th March 2020, I will write 300 words based on one of the 150 psalms in the bible. How can I find and give love in the midst of coronavirus?
“That’ll do pig, that’ll do.” The final line, and the best line, in the film “Babe” (it’s about a pig). The Academy award-nominated song that accompanies the film is simply called “That’ll do”
A kind and steady heart can make a grey sky blue
And a task that seems impossible is quite possible for you
A kind and steady heart is sure to see you through
It speaks of someone who is dependable, reliable, courageous and kind – and that this is enough to carry you through. This is the kind of person that it would be wonderful to have in our lives.
Psalm 93 brought this song to mind immediately – because it describes God in the most solid and dependable of ways:
1 The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea – the Lord on high is mighty. 5 Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.
Do you hear the words that describe our God?
- Reigning
- Strength
- Firm
- Secure
- Eternity
- Mighty
- Stand
- Endless
The psalm describes huge seas that are roaring – uncontrollable – but, and it’s a big but, God is stronger, bigger and unmoved by them.
This is who we need to hang out with when it’s all kicking off, when it all feels out of control. It may not fix things, but just knowing that we are with someone like this makes it OK.
We need to pray that in the midst of our storms, we can take hold of the truths in this Psalm – the God who is mighty, strong, endless, secure and standing firm – He is with us, and we are with Him.
A kind and steady heart is sure to see you through
May you know His strength today.
Love Matt
