Gathered filled and sent out.
Read Acts 20:6-12
This is the final week of our series in the book of Acts: “Gathered, Filled & Sent Out”. For our final week, we are looking at us gathering together for teaching.
Warming Up
Have you ever fallen asleep in a church service, prayer meeting or house group?
Exploring the Word
- Share anything from the passage that grabs your attention.
- How long were Paul and the team staying at Troas? (Troas is on the Western shore of Turkey, about 100 miles north of modern Izmir)
- Did this length of stay influence what the church were doing? How long do you think Paul was speaking for?
- How do you imagine Paul’s teaching? Was it just him speaking or more of a discussion?
- This story is included in Acts primarily because of the miracle with Eutychus. Can you remember any other times when people have been raised from the dead in the book of Acts?
- Even after the midnight death & resurrection – Paul carries on teaching. Why does he do this?
Applying the Word
- What do you think is the content of Paul’s teaching here? What else has he been saying in the Book of Acts – what do you think he is talking about here?
- Why is it important for Christians to engage with teaching? What is the value for us?
- Is your thinking about the faith often challenged or provoked, or do you tend to stick with what you already think?
- Sitting for hours in a room is one way of learning about the faith. What are some of the ways that you find helpful?
- Are you engaging with challenging and thoughtful Christian teaching? How do you think God wants you to do this?
- Encourage each other in how you are going to pursue teaching in the weeks to come.
