QuestionLast Sunday, at the All Age Service you were invited to respond to “If you could ask God one question, what would you ask?” The response was fantastic – we have had so many fascinating, thoughtful and challenging questions – and a few that are just bonkers. So, some of the elders have sought to answer the questions – using the Twitter rule, i.e. the answer can only have a maximum of 140 characters. This helps to stop the elders waffling, and to help answer lots of the questions. Many of the questions overlapped or where similar, so they have been combined.

There are so many, it will take a few weeks for us to fit them into the notice sheet. Here is the first bunch:

Q:  Are you (when are you) coming back?

A:   I will surely come but only the Father, not even the son or the angels, knows the day and hour. You’ll know when it happens. Just be ready.

Q:  Is my deceased family member with you?

A:  One day the dead will be raised. Jesus is the only way to the Father; whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal life.

Q:  Do animals go to heaven?

A:  The Bible doesn’t say. There may well be animals in heaven (Isaiah 11) but God offers salvation specifically to humans, created in His image.

Q:  How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

A:  361.9237001 cubic centimetres per day. Apparently.

Q:  Why can’t I see you? / Where are you? / Why are you so powerful?

A:  I might appear hidden but if you look around you’ll see signs of me at work everywhere – mostly in people and their situations.

Q: Why were the Israelites not to eat certain foods? Are we to do the same?

A:  Dietary laws primarily distinguished Israelites from other nations. Peter’s vision and Jesus himself indicated that all food was clean.

Q:  Why did you create me if I’m just going to die?

A:  Yes your time on earth will be limited but I created you to live life to the full while you’re here and one day you’ll be with me for all time.

Q:  How did you create the world?

A:  I spoke it into being.

Q:  Why can’t I see you? / Where are you? / Why are you so powerful?

A:  I might appear hidden but if you look around you’ll see signs of me at work everywhere – mostly in people and their situations.

Q:  What is the meaning of life?

A:  Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. It’s not about YOU!
